All eligible study members were contacted via a postal questionnaire. Subsequently 238 study members were approached for a sub-study on the effect of breast feeding1)

Data collection
The postal questionnaire was sent to all cohort members to ask about family, health, employment, smoking, and sports participation and fitness.
Two physicians used a dietary and health questionnaire at home visits to 172 of 238 cohort members invited to take part in a study of the effect of breast feeding, and who had been selected on that basis.
Training for data collection
Instructions are given at the head of each form.
